Blazers’ Batum punches Spain’s Navarro in the groin

In an interesting act of revenge, France’s Nicolas Batum punched Spain’s Juan Carlos Navarro in the groin in Thursday’s Olympic basketball match. Batum was extremely candid about the situation when he told the press that he wanted to see Navarro “flop.”

The 2012 London Games have run rampant with teams losing intentionally so that they stay in competition save the best teams for last. Batum cites that exact reason for the punch. France’s team and coaches are convinced that Spain blew a 12-point fourth quarter lead in their game against Brazil to avoid the dynamic US team until the gold-medal game.

Batum was told that his actions were not in the Olympic spirit and he replied, “Do you think if you lost a game on purpose, that’s the Olympic spirit”?

He later apologized via his Twitter account.

The Portland Trail Blazers signed Batum over the summer on a four-year, $45 million contract extension.
