Venus Williams forced to drop out of Miami Masters

Three-time Miami Master’s winner Venus Williams had to drop her bid for a fourth win due to back pain. After fighting back from a rare auto-immune disease, Williams certainly hoped to make an impression and rise in the rankings, but her comeback was not meant to be.

It was a pretty big setback though for the 32-year old; she battles Sjogren’s Syndrome, which causes excessive fatigue, but has been able to return to the court recently. She fought hard though and made it to the Miami Masters, but things quickly soured.

“I was having some pain, and then just wanted to see how I felt in the warm-up — just not able to play,” Williams told reporters.

Williams has done her best to remain positive and upbeat despite facing her setbacks.

“I have faced disappointments in my life and my career. It’s not the first, probably not the last, just have to get through it and stay positive.” Williams said.

Here’s to hoping that Venus continues to bounce back and can keep on playing at the high level she has maintained over her fantastic career. Her rise from illness over the past two years has been a great struggle, but her return to tennis certainly is an inspiration for all.
