Pierce misses game for birth of son

It is rare for a non-injured player stays at home while his team travels for the next game. Paul Pierce had a good reason to stay in Boston on Monday, though!

Pierce opted to stay home because his wife was close to giving birth and he did not want to miss it. The team traveled to Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves while Pierce and wife Julie Landrum welcomed their new son, Prince Paul Pierce, into the world. He was born at 8:21 p.m. on Tuesday.

“In the next 18 years, world, Celtics fans, look out,” Pierce told WEEI.

This is the couple’s third child and first son. Daughter Prianna Lee was born on April 4, 2008 (Happy 5th Birthday!) and the family welcomed their second daughter in May 2011.

Pierce and Landrum have been together since 2006 and made it official by getting married back in July 2010. Prianna Lee served as their flower girl for their oceanfront wedding at the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast, California. Coach Doc Rivers, teammate Kevin Garnett, and former teammate Ray Allen were all in attendance for Pierce’s big day, along with over 80 other friends and family members.

Congratulations to the Pierce family!
