Early NHL Playoff Highlights

Published On May 4, 2013 | By Tyler Scionti

Playoff Hockey is underway as the best NHL teams from the year are duking it out to see who will win the Stanley Cup in 2013. So far the playoffs have been exciting to say the least, so here are a few of the best highlights from some of the series currently going on.

Minnesota Wild versus Chicago Black Hawks

The Black Hawks have taken a commanding 2-0 series lead, outscoring the Wild 7-3 in the first two games, the biggest offensive surge coming in their 5-2 win in Game Two. In both games the Black Hawks outshot the Wild, and played a tight defense to keep them in check. The Wild certainly do have a big hole to get out of if they hope to take the series.

San Jose Sharks versus Vancouver Canucks

The Sharks have surged forward in the playoffs taking a 2-0 series lead over the Canucks, outscoring them 6-3 in the first two games. For the Sharks to be off to such a hot start over the Canucks is not entirely expected considering that during the regular season the Canucks were a better team, but the Sharks have been relentless and will keep on fighting.

Los Angeles Kings versus St. Louis Blues

The Blues hold a 2-0 series lead over the Kings, but that lead seems so much closer than it is considering that both times St. Louis won by a score of 2-1. The Kings have been good but not good enough, especially since Blues goalie Brian Elliot has been on fire, absolutely shutting down opposing offenses.

New York Islanders versus Pittsburgh Penguins

After losing 5-0 in Game One, the Islanders fought back to a 4-3 win in Game Two over the Penguins. The Penguins may be the most formidable team in the 2013 playoffs, and for the Islanders to stick it out and keep fighting could be a good sign for them as the series continues.

Boston Bruins vs Toronto Maple Leafs

The Bruins blew the Toronto Maple Leafs away in Game 1, winning 4-1 in the series opener with goals from Wade Redden, David Krejci, Nathan Horton, and Jonny Boychuk.  Goalie Tuukka Rask also had a great game, blocking 19 of 20 shots on goal.

Those are just a few of the better highlights during the 2013 playoffs. Don’t forget to watch for yourself and keep checking here for more news as the playoffs unfold.
