Federer sports new look, same results on the court

Tennis sensation Roger Federer commonly wears his hair pretty long for a guy, which has become his brand over the past decade, but this past week he has been sporting a new haircut that has caused many to turn heads.

At the age of 31, many said that Federer’s new short haircut has him beginning to look his age. While Federer may look his age to some of the fans, he certainly isn’t showing any signs of aging as evidenced by his performance at the Italian Open.

Federer was the No. 2 seed and dominated in his match versus Potito Starace this past Tuesday, winning 6-1, 6-2. Buoyed from his victory, Federer will roll on to the third round. The win must have been nice for Federer, who is playing in just his second tournament since missing most of March and all of April with a back injury. Now, Federer says he’s healthy and ready to play.

“I feel the way I want to feel,” Federer said. “I’m happy that from start to finish I was able to control the outcome of the match.”

After the Italian Open, Federer will head on to the French Open, but many obstacles — his biggest being clay-court king Rafael Nadal — stand between him and his second French Open victory. To win it all, Federer will have to continue shaking the rust off, which he seems to have been doing as of late.

Whether he wears his hair long or short, Federer will always be the same star tennis player that he has been throughout his entire career. Who knows, maybe the new haircut is some sort of good luck charm for him as he advances to the next round.
