Mets Boast Delicious Culinary Line-Up for All-Star Game

The 2013 All Star game won’t only feature the best talent in the MLB, but it will also feature some of the best food. Everyone in The Empire State will be represented when Citi Field features the best of New York’s culinary options.

The Mets hosted a food tasting to sample some of the menu options that will be offered at the game. Mike Landeen, SVP of Venue Services and Operations for the Mets, was on hand at the tasting to offer his thoughts on the Mets culinary choices for the 2013 All Star Game.

“The All-Star Game is an opportunity for us to reach out to a lot of fans that haven’t been here,” Landeen said. “A lot of the local fans know what we have to offer but this is definitely our catering and culinary staff’s opportunity to really show what we have here at Citi Field. We feel as though we have raised the bar and will continue to do so.”

As soon as the Mets found out the were hosting the game they got right to work prepping for the event. While the sheer number of the food is astounding, they options offered are what catches the eye most. You won’t just get your run-of-the-mill hot dog at this event; the Mets will feature:

  • tacos from El Verrano Taqueria
  • barbecue from Blue Smoke
  • burgers and fries from Shake Shack
  • Major League Grilled Chesese
  • Mac ‘N Cheese Trio (Pancetta, Lobster and Three Cheese Mac ‘N Cheese)
  • Italian delicacies from Mama’s of Corona
  • sushi from Daruma
  • All-Star Meatball Hero (Citi Field Executive Chef Robert Flowers’ secret meatball recipe with his family’s gravy recipe served on  a long sesame seed roll with buffalo mozzarella and fried basil)

Vegetarian? Fear not baseball fans. The Mets are offering several non-meat options to keep their fans happy. Fans who want to stick to their diets can enjoy an array of veggie burgers and veggie dogs, vegetarian tacos (roasted portobello mushrooms, zucchini, corn and poblano peppers in fresh corn tortillas), the caprese panini and a ricotta crostini.

Got a sweet tooth? The Mets have you covered as they will be offering a variety of desserts to satisfy any sugary cravings of their fans. One standout is the s’mores cupcake which consists of a graham cracker flavored cake with a marshmallow in the middle topped witch chocolate icing. The real slugger in the dessert lineup is the raspberry cheesecake donuts complete with a white chocolate dipping sauce — a dish that is definitely worth putting that summer diet on a temporary break.

Chef Flowers, who is heading the initiative behind the menu, has a simple goal: to bring the best food along with the best baseball to the fans.

“When the fans come here from all over the world, I want them to leave here thinking that we have the best food and beverage operation in all of baseball and all of major league sports,” Flowers said.

When it comes to the 2013 All Star Game, the fans will come for baseball and stay for the food. For those fortunate to get a pair of tickets, you will not be disappointed or hungry.
