Toronto Sun pokes fun at Bruins following Game 6 collapse

The Toronto Maple Leafs know how it feels.

A month and a half ago — yes, it really was that long ago — the Boston Bruins trailed 4-1 in the third period to the Leafs in Game 7 before mounting an improbable comeback that gave the B’s the 5-4 overtime victory. Following that loss, the Toronto Sun ran a cover that said, “The choke’s on us,” with Toronto goaltender James Reimer sprawled out on the ice.

Last night, in similar fashion, the Bruins held a 2-1 lead over the Chicago Blackhawks before Chicago scored two goals within 17 seconds of each other to stun Boston and take home the cup.

While dropping a game after being three goals up is infinitely more shocking than losing a one-goal lead, it’s still heartbreaking for the Bruins. And of course, Toronto couldn’t help but give the Bruins a taste of their own medicine in Tuesday’s issue of the Sun, running a picture of Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews hoisting the Cup and the words, “To: Chicago, Thanks! Love: Toronto.”

Ha. Good to see the Maple Leafs can poke a little fun. The Game 7 win over Toronto probably isn’t going to offer any solace to Boston right now, however — they might have a couple other things on their mind.
