Bruins Recap: Offense wakes up versus Capitals
The Boston Bruins are celebrating St. Paddy’s day in style, with a 4-1 win in Saturday’s game against the Capitals they hope to keep the good times coming with a game at 12:30 on Sunday versus the Penguins.
With the win on Saturday the Bruins improved to 19-4-3 to continue their impressive season and recent run of success that saw them win five of their last six games. The Bruins donned green sweaters during their warm ups in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, and then the party started once they left the first period with a 2-0 lead, one by Nathan Horton and the other by David Krejci with the assist from Milan Lucic.
In the second period Andrew Ference scored his first goal of the season, with the assist from Nathan Horton who had three points in the game (one goal, two assists). Rick Peverley helped blow the game wide open in the third period when he scored a goal to give the Bruins a commanding 4-1 lead. Anton Khudobin racked up 37 saves to hold the Capitals’ offense at bay with the exception of their lone goal in the second period.
The top line of Krejci, Lucic, and Horton has been struggling as of late, seemingly having lost their groove and nerve on the ice. The frustration has been mounting but exploded in an offensive surge Saturday, which was welcome news to the Bruins.
The Bruins will need their surge of success as they face the red hot Penguins on Sunday; the Penguins have won eight games in a row and show little sign of slowing down. The Bruins’ offense clicked well in Saturday’s game and the hope is that their top line can keep providing steady production as they try to cement their place at the top of the standings. The combo of Krejci, Horton, and Lucic will get back at it again after scraping off some rust in Saturday’s game and hope to continue their recent success.
