Jaromir Jagr to don Bruins black and gold
Ladies and gentlemen, get your mullets ready. Jaromir Jagr is coming to Boston. Trade rumors clogged up Twitter all of Tuesday morning, but the Boston Globe confirmed Jagr’s trade from the Dallas Stars to the Bruins Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, TSN confirmed that Lane MacDermid and Cody Payne were the price for Jagr, and the prospects will be headed to Dallas.
In 34 games, Jagr has scored 14 goals and 12 assists to lead the Stars in scoring. That’s good for 18th in the NHL. At 41 years old, he’s still averaging 18:17 of ice time per game.
Jagr has a storied history with the NHL, he started his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins and had a decade-long relationship with the team before being traded to the Washington Capitals. He later played for the New York Rangers before leaving the NHL for three seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League.
He made headlines, and ticked off a whole lot of Penguins fans, when he returned to the NHL in July of 2011 and signed with Pittsburgh rival Philadelphia Flyers rather than returning to the team where it all started.
It’s all pretty ironic when you consider that the Bruins lost out on Jarome Iginla to the Penguins, and now Jagr will be part of a Bruins team attempting to stop a seemingly perfect Pittsburgh team from a run at the Stanley Cup. Lucky for us Bostonians, we have no hard feelings about the Philly move, and now it looks like the Bruins’ will have one of the NHL’s biggest active legends on the roster.
Jagr will be an unrestricted free agent come the end of the year. His deal with Dallas was for one-year at $4.5 million.
