Pittsburgh bar bans Boston beer for Eastern Conference Finals
A Pittsburgh bar, Howler’s Coyote Café, is taking full advantage of their team’s home ice advantage in the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins Eastern Conference finals series. The sports bar is going the extra mile in support of their beloved Penguins by posting a “public service announcement” photo to their Facebook page, stating their decision to not sell Boston beer during the series between the two teams, according to Yahoo! Sports’s Puck Daddy blog.
The reported barroom sign reads, “Two days left to order any Sam Adams. We will not be serving any Boston beers during the Eastern Conf. Finals!”
The decision to stop all sales of Boston’s Sam Adams beer is just one of the many times cities have tried to eradicate any Boston-themed presence when facing off against Boston teams. During the 2011 Stanley Cup Final against Vancouver, the Canadian restaurant chain, Boston Pizza, changed its name to Montreal Pizza and Vancouver Pizza. Tim Horton’s, a Canadian coffee and donut shop, would only sell “Vancouver Crème” doughnuts.
Bruins fans that are traveling to Pittsburgh for Games 1 and 2, be sure to check out the Church Brewery, Celestial Gold, or a German Pilsener to catch the game and drink your native Boston beer.
