Alex Cobb released from hospital, gives thanks on Twitter
The Tampa Bay Rays can sigh a special sign of relief after news that their starting pitcher, Alex Cobb, was released from the hospital 24 hours after a very scary incident that occurred Saturday at Tropicana Field. In the fifth inning of their game against Kansas City, Cobb was drilled in the head by a line drive, which knocked the right-hander to his feet. When the medical staff rushed to the mound, Cobb was kicking his legs in pain in front of a silenced and concerned Tropicana crowd. Thankfully, Cobb remained conscious during the entire medical examination and was taken off the field in a stretcher for further medical attention.
Kansas City’s Eric Hosmer lined the ball, which apparently hit Cobb on the right side of his face, near his ear. During their game against Sunday the following day, the organization announced that Cobb had been released from the Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg and was in good spirits. Rays spokesman, Rick Vaughn, said all tests were normal and Cobb would walk away from the incident with a mild concussion.
In his message posted on Twitter, Cobb expressed his gratitude for the prayers, Rays athletic trainer Ron Porterfield and the medical staff at the Bayfront Medical Center.
“Can’t thank everyone enough for the prayers. Was the only way for me to make it out of there ok. Look forward to getting back out there,” Cobb expressed on his personal twitter account. “Want to say thank you to our All-Star trainer Ron Porterfield and the doctors @bayfront hospital. Woke up with only a minor headache today.”
