Victor Cruz privately visits family of Sandy Hook victim
The day after young Jack Pinto‘s funeral — and only a week ahead of a Christmas the six-year-old will never get to celebrate — Pinto’s family received a very special visitor. The man was not Santa, but to any New York Giants fan, he was probably the next best thing: Victor Cruz.
Little Jack was a huge Giants fan, and his favorite player was Cruz. So in honor of Jack, Cruz dedicated his game on Sunday to the murdered child. He wrote Jack’s name on his cleats and gloves and vowed to visit the family later in the week. The gesture was well-covered by many media outlets, including this one.
But Cruz did not seem to want his visit with Pinto’s family on Tuesday to turn into another photo op. Instead, according to the New York Post, the media was banned from the Pinto home for over three hours Tuesday while Cruz spent time with young Jack’s family, friends and neighbors.
Young children played football outside and many left the home with gift bags full of Giants gear after the visit. Nobody, however, would reveal much about what happened inside the home. The only visitor to comment to the media called the visit “a successfully private moment” and refused to say more.
Cruz stayed tight-lipped about the visit as well, but afterward, he tweeted: “Much love to the entire Pinto family. Great people with huge hearts. I’m sorry again for your loss. Looking at life through a different lens.”
