Alex Ovechkin and Maria Kirilenko get engaged

The former NHL MVP and Twitter favorite is off the market. Alex Ovechkin, captain of the Washington Capitals, announced his engagement to tennis star girlfriend Maria Kirilenko via Twitter Monday. The pair have been dating for over a year, and with the NHL lockout in full swing, Ovechkin has been playing for Dynamo Moscow in their native Russia.
Ovechkin spent his summer cheering on Kirilenko at various matches throughout the French Open, Wimbledon, and the Olympics. She is currently ranked No. 14 in the WTA world rankings.
Between returning to his hometown to play hockey and now an engagement, it seems like the lockout hasn’t brought Ovi down at all.
