Hope Solo slams Brandi Chastain on Twitter

U.S. soccer legend and Olympic commentator Brandi Chastain upset Hope Solo when she was critical of the current Olympic team during Saturday’s broadcast, agitating the current U.S. goalkeeper. So, Solo did what any disgrunted athlete with access to the Internet would do, she tweeted about it.

According to Sporting News, Solo took to Twitter saying, “Lay off commentating about defending and gking until you get more educated @brandichastain the game has changed from a decade ago.”

Chastain did criticize defender Rachel Buehler during U.S.’s game vs. Colombia Saturday, but it’s not the first time the U.S. soccer icon has clashed with Solo. Chastain was critical of Solo when she tested positive for drugs before the Games. The test was ruled accidental and Solo blamed it on prescribed medication, but the positive results made quite the splash in the news regardless.

“Its important 2 our fans 2 enjoy the spirit of the olympics. Its not possible when sum1 on air is saying that a player is the worst defender!” Solo continued.

For those who don’t remember, Chastain is to thank for the iconic image in soccer of a player ripping off her jersey following the U.S.’s victory in the women’s World Cup 12 years ago.

With a lot of soccer left to be played, let’s hope Solo and Chastain can learn to play nice throughout the remainder of the Games. If not, these are bound to be the first of many angry tweets.
