Hey Youk, call Joba maybe?

With all the trades that happen in professional sports, it’s inevitable that sometimes old adversaries become teammates. Nine times out of 10, those players quickly get over their old beef, grow up, and figure their stuff out. Kevin Youkilis? Not so much.

The former Red Sox third baseman signed with the evil empire for a free-agent contract, so obviously there were going to be a few Yankee players that weren’t at the top of Youk’s Christmas card list. In particular, we have New York reliever Joba Chamberlain who had a history of buzzing Youk back when he was at bat wearing the red “B.”

The New York Post reports the gentlemen have yet to put their big boy pants on and put the past in the past.

“I left him [Youkilis] a voicemail,” Chamberlain said. He was then asked if Youkilis returned the call. “No, he did not call me back.

“I did everything I could and I can’t control what Kevin Youkilis does,” he continued. “Am I surprised [he didn’t return the call]? Not really. I’m bound to run into him at some point — sooner, rather than later, I’m assuming. We’ll see what happens.”

When he signed with the Yanks, Youkilis said that his past problems with Chamberlain wouldn’t be a factor, but it looks like he’ll be eating his words soon enough.
