Milwaukee Brewers announce winner of ‘YOUniform’ contest

The Milwaukee Brewers recently held a design-a-YOUniform contest, in which fans were encouraged to submit their own designs for an alternate Brewers uniform. The contest resulted in an overwhelming number of fan entries and after receiving nearly 700 submissions, the Brewers announced the winning design on Sunday at a “Brewers On Deck event.”

According to Yahoo!, the winning entry was submitted by Ben Peters of Richfield, Minn., and will be worn during two games in March. As the winner, Peters will receive a trip to Brewers Spring Training 2013 to see the winning design on the field at a game.

The hats and uniforms will be worn by all Brewers players and coaches at the March 22 Spring Training game at Maryvale Baseball Park against the Chicago Cubs. The uniforms will also be worn at Miller Park on March 30 on as the Brewers take on the Chicago White Sox in an exhibition game.

In addition to an online fan vote, a panel of voters including Brewers pitcher John Axford, Brewers President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Doug Melvin and Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger judged the finalists.

Good for the Brewers for thinking outside of the box, and their continual embrace of fantastic uniforms and logos. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Red Sox allowed fans to do this?
