Stacy Coley picks “Swag” hat

Every year on national signing day, it is tradition for the high school seniors to “pick a hat” to show their decision for which college they will attend. This tradition is almost as big as the ugly suit party we get to see during the NBA draft.

Nonetheless, we saw senior Stacy Coley reach down for a hat, but not just any hat. Coley chose the “Swag” hat. This determined he would play for the University of Miami, though many thought he would pick Florida State.

In each of three varsity seasons at Northeast High School in Oakland Park, Florida, Coley caught at least 30 passes for 500 yards and seven touchdowns.

During his senior year, he averaged more than 20 yards a catch. Hecaught 29 passes for 513 yards and 10 TDs, leading him to be ranked the 13th best receiver in the country by rivals.com.

According to Coley, most of his high school coaches, including his head coach and former Hurricane Donnell Bennett, favored Miami.

“Coach Bennett and most of my coaches like the U,” Coley told NBCMiami.com last week. “But wherever I go, I feel like they will be behind me 100 percent.”
