McIlroy facing girlfriend troubles?

The No. 1 golfer in the world, Rory McIlroy regrets his decision to withdraw from the Honda Classic last week due to what he claimed was unbearable pain from an impacted wisdom tooth. McIlroy completed just eight holes before exiting the match, claiming he was out of sorts.

McIlroy definitely took his struggles personally, coming close to tears in front of the media as he walked off the course to leave. He was at a loss for words as he walked towards his car despite continuous pressure for some insight into his meltdown on the course.

There is some speculation it could his brand new set of Nike equipment may be the reason for his struggles last week, however McIlroy refutes the claims that his new clubs may be the cause of his latest troubles.

“The driver and the ball took some time to get used to, but I had weeks at Nike before the start of the year, and I feel comfortable with all the equipment,” McIlroy said.

There is another theory though, McIlroy may be having some troubles with his girlfriend, tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, who is ranked No. 10 in the world. The two have been dating since August of 2011 yet so signs of a long-term commitment are evident as the future becomes more and more uncertain.

There have been numerous engagement rumors surrounding the couple, however none of them have come to fruition. The two seem to have drifted apart in recent weeks, which could go far in explaining McIlroy’s recent distraction and lack of focus. It is quite understandable that McIlroy is starting to crack under the immense pressure of preforming at such a high level while also trying to plan his future, let’s hope he finds a solution soon and is able to get back on the course and compete.
