You know what the true sign of a real Red Sox Sox fan is? It’s when the time comes that you have to decide between your career or the Sox, you choose the Sox.

Well maybe it’s not that quite dramatic, but actor/director Ben Affleck was faced with a choice in the filming of the new movie Gone Girl. In one particular scene Affleck is to don a baseball cap, so director  David Finch went with a little homage to the Yankees asking Affleck to wear the famous “NY.”

For Affleck, a diehard Red Sox fan, that was just too much to ask.

“I said, ‘David, I love you, I would do anything for you,’” Affleck said. “‘But I will not wear a Yankees hat. I just can’t. I can’t wear it because it’s going to become a thing, David. I will never hear the end of it. I can’t do it.’ And I couldn’t put it on my head.”

While Affleck did not get to wear a Sox cap, the pair compromised on a Mets hat. Though it was the Mets who knocked the Sox down in 1986, I guess Affleck can find it in himself to forgive the old NL rival.

With the way the media and fans talk about our favorite actors and actresses, you can easily forget that much like us they are regular people too who can get caught up in the greatest drama ever written: the sports season.

For those interested in checking out the movie, here’s the link on IMDB, could be worth a look as it got an 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.
