There are three things David Ortiz is never short on: home runs, clutch RBI’s, and his immense body of charity work. After all, while mashing 35 homers in a season certainly is important, Ortiz’s charity work is a true home run and does an even greater service to the city of Boston.

When Big Papi isn’t cranking them out of Fenway Park, he’s taking his big smile around Boston in an effort to raise support, funds, and morale wherever he goes. Big Papi’s recent trip is not different as the big slugger went to visit pediatric patients at Mass General as part of his continuos work with the David Ortiz Children’s Fund.

Ortiz snapped some selfies and signed autographs for patients all day as grinning children could not help but smile around the famous Sox slugger. Ortiz also spoke a bit about his upcoming annual golf tournament which raises money for his charity; it’s an event that delivers every year and you can bet we’ll have full coverage of it this winter.

“They take it pretty serious I’m telling you, like my friends around the league are like I heard about the tournament I’m coming in it’s fun,” Ortiz said. “It’s something that I enjoy doing because like I said we’ll do anything to help these children.”

All in all it was a great day as Ortiz spent time with the kids and their families as he hopes to raise awareness for pediatric patients everywhere who need support, hope, and most importantly a smile. And how can you not smile seeing Papi walking through the door???
