Katie Couric to interview Manti Te’o
Notre Dame linebacker, Manti Te’o, will sit down with Katie Couric for his first on-camera interview since news broke about the dead girlfriend hoax, the talk show host said Sunday.
Te’o and his parents will appear on Couric’s syndicated daytime talk show, Katie, that will air on Thursday. ABC News has not released any further details as to when the interview will take place and where.
Te’o gave an off-camera interview with ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap on Friday night. He insists he was the victim of the hoax, not a participant. Te’o said he had an online romance with a woman, Lennay Kekua, he never met and in September was informed that the woman died from leukemia.
While admitting to tailoring certain aspects of his story, including telling his father that he had met Kekua, Te’o claimed during his ESPN interview to have never had any part in the hoax. He told Schaap that he was not convinced that Kekua did not exist until Wednesday, when Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the individual allegedly behind the hoax, contacted Te’o to confess and apologize.
Excerpts of the Couric interview are expected to air on several ABC News programs, including Good Morning America and Nightline.
