Top 5 Super Bowl host cities
With the Super Bowl coming up this Sunday, there is certainly a great deal of excitement surrounding the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. The game will be held in New Orleans, which prompts us to ask: what are the top five best locations for the Super Bowl? To settle our debate we will look at Super Bowl history, city location, food, and sites to see.
No. 5 – Los Angeles: LA ranks fifth on our list, having hosted seven Super Bowls but not since 1993. Los Angeles features a warm climate and a plethora of options for anyone looking to fill the rest of their vacation. Its close proximity to Disneyland provides entertainment for adults and children alike, as you can celebrate you team’s victory in the happiest pace on earth. The sunny beaches, great shopping destinations, and excellent restaurants also provide the perfect experience for any vacationer.
No. 4 – San Diego: Next on our list is San Diego, host of three Super Bowls through the years and many sites to see for any traveling football fans. Possibly the greatest attraction — and a driving factor for San Diego to be on this list — is the world famous San Diego Zoo. The zoo encompasses 100 acres and hosts more than 650 species of animals. This is a must see if you are in the area, as it features some of the most breath-taking exhibits, safaris, and a strong conservation program.
No. 3 – Tampa: Next on our list is Tampa, which has hosted four Super Bowls. Tampa offers a fantastic vacation experience due to its year-round warm weather, which is a great relief to many fans from up north. Tampa features several zoos and aquariums for those of us who are nature oriented, and for our culinary fans out there, Tampa’s restaurants feature some of the best steakhouses in the country and a whole range of cultural cuisine.
No. 2 – Miami: Miami just misses the cut for first place on our list, yet there are still many reasons that it is tied with New Orleans for hosting Super Bowl championships. Miami’s sunny and warm location makes it a go-to destination for all vacationers. When in Miami don’t forget to get some sun on the famous South Beach, which is conveniently located near many of the best restaurants and night-life spots. If you’re an adventurous person perhaps a tour of the everglades could suit you, where you can see many examples of Florida’s natural wildlife. As for food, Miami is brimming with great seafood restaurants, celebrity chefs, and even BBQ.
No. 1 – New Orleans: New Orleans is tied with Miami as the city to host the most super bowls at 10 each, yet some of the intangible elements set it far ahead. When disaster struck in 2005 at the hands of Hurricane Katrina all was thought to be lost. When the Saints won the Super Bowl in 2010 it truly was a miraculous moment in sports. Yet New Orleans stood strong through the elements and stands as one of the premier locations for the greatest sports event known to man.
For any culinary enthusiasts out there, New Orleans is the place to be. French, Greek, and Cajun influences can be found nearly everywhere, and a list of traditional foods includes jambalaya, po-boys, and gumbo. As for sites to see, you can’t miss the French Quarter festival, Voodoo Music Festival, or the Satchmo Summer Festival.
