Pistorius continues to await bail as proceedings take turn toward bizarre
South African Olympian/Paralympian Oscar Pistorius continues to await a ruling on bail after the alleged murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, and there has been plenty of drama along with a lengthy wait on the bail terms.
Pistorius claims the incident was an accident. Last Tuesday he pleaded his innocence, saying he feared Steenkamp was a robber who broke into his home when he heard her walking about late in the evening.
The prosecution is arguing that the murder was premeditated and was a result of a domestic disagreement. Their case against Pistorius, however, has been dealt a series of blows, especially since the latest news that the lead investigator, Hilton Botha, is suspected of murder charges himself. In addition to this latest development, Botha made a serious blunder in admitting that he had little evidence to counter what Pistorius claims is the truth. Botha also said boxes of testosterone were found in Pistorious’s bedroom, but that seems to be a false claim as well.
As a result of all of these issues, Botha was dismissed as the lead investigator in the case and will be replaced by senior detective Vinesh Moonoo.
Pistorius’ brother seems happy about the turn of events.
“I feel like the court proceedings went well today. We trust that everyone has more clarity about this tragic incident” he said on Thursday.
