Weekend Watchlist: March 15-17
Friday March 15
If you want to watch some college hockey, the start of St. Patrick’s Day weekend features several Hockey East quarterfinals playoff games.
Game 1 between the Boston University Terriers and Merrimack Warriors will be played at Agganis Arena, starting at 7:30 p.m. This series will be sure to draw a crowd as BU coach Jack Parker will be retiring after the season. This weekend marks the last time he will coach at Agganis Arena.
Game 1 between Vermont Catamounts and Boston College Eagles will be played at Silvio O. Conte Forum, starting at 7:00 p.m. The Vermont-Boston College game will be aired on NBCSN. The rising UMass Lowell River Hawks will take on the Maine Black Bears for Game 2 at the Tsongas Center, starting at 7:00 p.m. The River Hawks made school history after winning their first regular season title last Friday and lead the current series, 1-0.
Saturday March 16
The Washington Capitals come to TD Garden to face the Bruins. The game will be aired on NESN at 1:00 p.m. The Bruins have won five out of eight games so far in March, but they have not always played their best in those five wins. With 23 more games to play, each game is as important as the next come the playoff push. The Bruins currently own an 18-4-3 record, second in the Northeast Division. The Capitals, an Eastern Conference foe, are third in the Southeast Division, with an 11-14-1 record.
If you want to catch a basketball game, the Boston Celtics are taking on the Bobcats again at 7:30 p.m. at TD Garden. The perennial contenders lost to the Bobcats, who owned the league’s worst record, on Tuesday, and are looking to rebound. Tuesday’s 100-76 defeat by the Bobcats was one of the most lop-sided losses the Celtics have experienced this season. The Celtics responded by defeating a Raptors team, 112-88 on Wednesday.
College hockey continues from Friday matches. If the winners from Friday’s game win again Saturday, they will move on to the next round. If the series splits, the third game of each series will be played on Sunday.
Sunday March 17
The day of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration is upon us this year. If you are feeling festive, look for parades in your area. However, do dress for the weather when going out. And public transportation is usually preferred, since there are many more cars looking for limited parking spaces.
Some college hockey games that may take place, depending on the outcomes of games played on Saturday, will be Vermont at Boston College, Merrimack at Boston University, and Maine at UMass Lowell.
