Rumors swirl of potential Ray Allen return to Boston
A particular tweet made its rounds Monday, causing quite a stir among Boston fans:
People close to Ray Allen claiming he is thinking about opting out of his contract hoping to return to Boston for 1 year & retire a celtic.

The source is certainly iffy. This radio station got into trouble a while back for reporting that DeMarcus Cousins had been traded to the Celtics at the deadline (he wasn’t.) No other sources have reported anything regarding Allen potentially signing with the Celtics for a final season.
Allen signed with the Miami Heat as a free agent this year, rejecting a two-year, $12 million contract from Boston and accepting around $3 million per year from Miami.
Allen averaged 10.9 points per game this season off the bench for the Heat. The all-time 3-point field goal leader shot 41.9 percent from beyond the arc this year, down from 45.3 percent in 2011-12.
His personal stats are down but his team is four wins away from another championship. Why would he want to leave a team where everything is going right (so far, at least)? He was clearly uncomfortable and unhappy in Boston, particularly with the clashing presence of Rajon Rondo.
And would the Celtics even want Allen back anyway? When he took a smaller salary to play with the Heat, it left a bad taste in the mouths of Celtics fans. He’s older and slower, too, so that’s a downside.
This is just a rumor, and it’s doubtful that it will grow into anything more than that. Allen has moved on from the Celtics, and the Celtics have moved on from Allen. There’s not much more to it.
