Strange Stories Precede Stanley Cup Finals

Nothing like a Stanley Cup Final to bring out the best in people, eh? (Or worst, depending on how you look at it.) Nonetheless, here are a few of the more… interesting stories to emerge prior to the series between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins.
- A Craigslist ad was posted offering up two free tickets to Game 1 on Wednesday. Apparently, this man got two tickets from work, but had a prior conflict and couldn’t sell the tickets without getting in trouble. Here’s what the ad said: “Anybody want these tickets? No cost, just service or item needed. I am single guy living the life. Do you have enough creativity to take these tickets off my hands? Make a video, send me an offer to meet, whatever works. Do not be shy. Let me know ASAP. Best offer gets the tickets. And keep in mind, I go cage diving with sharks, I am not impressed easily. Email me your offer.” Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, because this is a tad sketchy?), the ad has been removed.
- Chicago native Frank Miller wanted to show his support for his beloved Blackhawks, so he decided not to grow a playoff beard, but to grow a playoff lawn. He didn’t cut the grass for the entirety of the playoffs, which plenty of Chicago fans adored, with many honking their horns as they passed or stopping to take pictures. But the city was apparently not too pleased with the eyesore, and sent someone to cut his grass. Since then, Miller has yet to re-mow the lawn.
- Chicago Tribune writer Steve Rosenbloom said that Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask is “just not that good.” We’ll just overlook his 1.75 GAA and 12-4 record in the playoffs. And his .943 save percentage. And you know, his 54 saves in one game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. And the fact that he allowed only two goals that entire series. But yeah, he’s not that good. Not at all.
