2012 MLB trade deadline
As the 2012 season trade deadline came and went this afternoon, we saw some notable deals finalized.
1) Red Sox/D-Backs: The Red Sox have added another lefty to their bullpen, acquiring Craig Breslow from the D-backs for righty reliever Matt Albers and outfielder Scott Podsednik. Breslow is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA this season. He has struck out 42, walked 13 and allowed five home runs in 43 and 1/3 innings.
2) Dodgers/Phillies: The Dodgers improved their depth in the outfield by acquiring Shane Victorino from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for right-handed reliever Josh Lindblom, pitching prospect Ethan Martin. The outfielder has a batting average of .261 with nine home runs, 40 RBIs and 24 steals so far this season.
3) Rangers/Cubs: The Texas Rangers added to their catching depth, getting Geovany Soto from the Cubs in exchange for Jacob Brigham, who went 5-5 with a 4.28 ERA in 21 starts in Double-A ball this season.
4) Rangers/Cubs: The Rangers acquired pitcher Ryan Dempster from the Cubs for Class A third baseman Christian Villaneuva and pitcher Kyle Hendricks to the Cubs in return. What has been termed the “Dwight Howard situation of baseball” has finally come to a close as the pitcher has parted ways with Theo Epstein and the Cubs despite a solid 2.25 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 16 starts this season.
