Playoff Baseball Roundup

The ALCS has been wrapped up for a few days now, but the NLCS came to a close Monday night and with that it’s time for a little baseball wrap up and some World Series previews. The baseball world keeps turning without the Red Sox, it’s true.

ALCS

Buh bye, Yankees. The Detroit Tigers swept the boys in pinstripes to book their World Series tickets. The 8-1 Game 4 victory solidified Detroit’s place in the pennant race and put them back in the World Series for the first time since 2006. Ironically, they also swept in the ALCS to get there six years ago.

The Tigers got to sit tight while the NLCS played out, but the Yankees had some drama to deal with. Rumors swirled about the team’s stars, everything from Derek Jeter‘s job security to Alex Rodriguez‘s flirting habits while on the bench. The New York Post handed it to the team with their cover just hours after the Yankees were eliminated with the headline, “Dear Yankees, We don’t date losers! Signed New Yorkers.” Ouch.

The Red Sox haven’t been left completely out of conversation, here. Former Sox infielder Marco Scutaro was named NLCS MVP Monday night, and he and the San Francisco Giants are headed to the World Series. Can’t help but think Scutaro came out on top in being traded by the Sox. He tied the league championship series record with 14 hits and celebrated as the Giants defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 in Game 7 for a spot in the World Series.

The romping has to hurt for the Cardinals, but don’t feel too badly for St. Louis. After all, they were the 2011 World Series Champions.

World Series

The stage is now set, San Francisco Giants vs. Detroit Tigers: World Series 2012. Game 1 will start at 8 p.m. Wednesday, and you can catch each game on Fox. Justin Verlander will be on the mound for Detroit, but the Giants have yet to make a formal announcement regarding their pitching rotation.
