What’s the drama with A-Rod?
It’s no secret that there is a lack of Yankee presence in the World Series this year. After a well-played regular season, Yankees fans seemed to think making it to the World Series wouldn’t even be an issue. Then along came the Tigers.
The Detroit Tigers came into the playoffs, and for lack of a better word, they exploded. They won every game, sweeping the Yankees and kicking them right out of the World Series. When the Yankees lost, the New York Post was placing the majority of the blame on Alex Rodriguez, who struggled so much in the postseason that he was benched.
According to Emily Smith of the New York Post, A-Rod was struggling because he was flirting with a bikini model who was sitting behind the dugout. He had previously been pulled from the game.
Although he is the highest paid player on the team, A-Rod’s at-bats in Game 1 were below par, which caused him to be pulled. After the game, he threw a ball to that bikini model, Kyna Treacy, and apparently asked for her phone number. Reports say that they went on a date after the game. This drew a lot of attention to the duo.
The issue here was not that he went out with her. The issue was that instead of trying to focus on the game, he openly flirted with this girl instead.
“Instead of rooting on his teammates as they struggled to stay alive during the tense game at Yankee Stadium, A-Rod, 37, had a ball boy toss the young women a baseball inscribed with a message asking for their numbers,” said Smith.
Since the New York Post has made these remarks, many other news outlets have suggested that A-Rod may end up getting traded. ESPN reported on October 22nd that A-Rod will not be getting traded. He will not waive the no trade clause in his contract. ESPN writer Wallace Matthews says that fans have a greater chance of hoping that he gets better rather than hoping that he gets traded.
