Athletes start to arrive at Olympic Village … if the bus can find it
After a lifetime of training for the Olympics, the moment is finally here. With only two weeks standing between the athletes and the Summer Games, dreams are finally becoming a reality as the teams are beginning to arrive at the Olympic Village in London. Immense pressure, stress, high expectations– these are the things that Olympic athletes are expected to worry about.
Spending four hours lost on a bus– not so much.
After arriving at Heathrow Airport, only 25 miles stood between the American athletes and gaining their accreditation at the Olympic Village in Stratford.
Team USA member, Kerron Clement tweeted about his less than favorable first impression of London.
“Um, so we’ve been lost on the road for 4hrs. Not a good first impression London. Athletes are sleepy, hungry and need to pee. Could we get to the Olympic Village please”
The frustrated athletes were delayed from arriving in Birmingham for their pre-Games training camp. However, after a long journey Clement tweeted to reveal that the bus had finally made it and he was rewarded with a good dinner:
“Eating at the Olympic Village. Love the variety of food choices, african, caribbean, Halal cuisine, india and asian and of course McDonalds”.
Overall, around 100 buses full of athletes made the journey to the Olympic Village. Team USA just happened to be on one of the two or three buses out of a hundred that had a difficult journey. Lets hope this is not indicative of the rest of the Summer Olympic Games for the rest of Team USA.
