Bieber and football just don’t mix
Back in his native land of Canada, Justin Bieber took the stage for the half time show at Canada’s football Grey Cup. Unfortunately for Bieber, Canada did not welcome him with open arms.
When Bieber’s name was announced at half-time, the crowd started booing. They booed when his face was on the JumboTron and they booed when he took the stage. These Toronto crowds were not excited to see Bieber.
In the past, the Canadian Football League has hosted half time performances including Nickelback and Lenny Kravitz. Bieber and fellow Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen just didn’t seem to fit into this mix.
Despite the booing, Bieber went on with his performance.
“It’s an honor to be here at the Grey Cup in Canada,” he said.
At the end of his last song, Bieber ignored the boos and said, “Thank you so much Canada. I love you.”
Football fans just seemed to be unimpressed with the CFL’s choice in halftime artists.
“Not a real big fan of Justin Bieber, sorry,” said 52-year-old Johanna Ellis of Kitchener, Ontario. “It’s not a very good choice in a stadium full of football fans.”
‘‘J-Biebs doesn’t scream football, you know? Neither does Carly Rae Jepsen,’’ said Calgary’s Ryan Prisque, 22.
As excited as these fans were to watch the game, the half-time performers just didn’t appeal to a Canadian football audience. This reaction may open the CFL’s eyes to see that they should probably go back to finding more rock acts, rather than pop tween idols.
