Video: HBO profiles Chad Johnson’s release from Dolphins
HBO has a knack for making the mundane seem fascinating, and last night’s episode of Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Miami Dolphins was no different. The final ten minutes of the show addressed the highly anticipated release of wide receiver Chad Johnson.
In a not-so-closed-door meeting with Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin, Johnson was ushered into the coach’s office where he was told of his release. The coach’s parting note made it clear to the 32-year old receiver that he was just not the right “fit” for the direction the team was taking.
HBO captured the encounter through two discrete cameras in Philbin’s office.
In the opening scene, the Hard Knocks cameras captured a private phone conversation with Philbin listing the various gaffes team officials had to maneuver through while Johnson was a member of the Dolphins. That included an incident covered in the show’s first episode, where Johnson cursed incessantly during his introductory press conference with the Miami media.
The coaches conversation with Johnson reiterated that the release was not based on one single incident, but a number of consequent episodes of behavioral misconduct.
Needless to say, No. 85 ruffled a few feathers in his three months with the team.
