Hockey players go head-to-head for charity

With the NHL locked out, no one will be seeing Scott Hartnell get into a brawl anytime soon. However the Philadelphia Flyer is going up against another NHLer in a different way.

Harntell and Toronto Maple Leafs winger James van Riemsdyk are going head to head in a Power of 2 for charity. Both are raising money for Hurricane Sandy relief – Hartnell for the Empire State Relief Fund and JVR for the New Jersey Relief Fund.

So far, Hartnell is in the lead with $8,935 raised while JVR trails with $7, 857.

To sweeten the deal, Hartnell and JVR have a bet on the line. If JVR raises more money, Hartnell will have to go holiday shopping for JVR in full hockey gear, and vice versa if it ends with Hartnell in the lead.

Every time you donate and share the campaign, you’re entered into a drawing to win tickets to a game in either Toronto or Philadelphia and the chance to meet Hartnell or JVR after the game. Sweet prize, but don’t hold your breath on those tickets considering the current state of the NHL. It’s all for a good cause, though.
