The Manti Te’o story is capturing everyone’s attention, sparking all kinds of jokes on the internet from social media to ad campaigns.

Many different variations of memes have been created within the last couple days and have been popping up everywhere. “Te’oing” is the latest social media trend and consists of putting your arm around an imaginary girlfriend. Other images of Te’o have surfaced as well with captions including “But she was real” and “Misses tackle trying to hug imaginary girlfriend.” Some memes that have been posted are harmless while others are mildly inappropriate.

Additionally, Te’o’s story captured the attention of Spirit Airlines, a discount airline known for its humorous advertising. The airline is using the hoax as a way to get people’s attention for cheap flights. One of the ads reads “NO HOAX! THESE FARES ARE REALLY LOW! RIP HIGH FARES!” The ad also includes a stamp of approval as it is “Catfish Approved.”

Questions continue to swirl around Notre Dame linebacker Te’o and the phony story concocted about his late girlfriend. According to foxnews.com, some of Te’o’s teammates knew that something wasn’t right last fall and some believe Te’o kept up the story because of the media attention. Well, unlucky for Te’o he has remained in the spotlight, but for all the wrong reasons.
