Well folks it’s official, the Sox won the sweepstakes for Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo.

The deal snuck up on us last week as the news broke that the Sox were one of out very team in the MLB taking a look at the 27-year-old outfielder who projects to be a stellar defensive and an adequate offensive player in the bigs. At around 5’9″ Castillo is not a big guy, but his speed and quickness make up for what he lacks in raw power, making him a valuable asset to the Sox.

Numerous reports via Twitter show that the Sox inked Castillo to a six-year (not counting this one), $72.5 million deal, possibly making him the every day center fielder next season.

For now, Castillo may spend some time in the minors to be called up in September (which is quickly approaching!) as the Sox assess his skills in person. It’s an exciting time for the Sox as they now have two extremely capable outfielders in Castillo and Yoenis Cespedes giving them plenty of depth and options to fill the remaining holes.

Now they just need a legitimate pitching staff….
