Former Patriot Joe Andruzzi aids at marathon finish line
Former New England Patriots guard Joe Andruzzi was at the finish line Monday when two explosions rocked the Boston Marathon. And if you know anything about the former NFL-er, he reacted exactly like you’d expect an Andruzzi to.
He carried a woman away from the scene of the explosions in heroic form, at the event supporting his charitable foundation’s participants in the marathon and hosting an event on Boylston Street. According to ESPN, Andruzzi and his wife Jen had been by the finish line at the time of the first explosion, greeting runners.
“Marathon Monday should be about uplifting stories, personal challenges and fundraising milestones, but today’s bombings irrevocably changed that,” Andruzzi said in a statement, via ESPN. “While I appreciate the interest in hearing our perspective on today’s horrific events, the spotlight should remain firmly on the countless individuals — first responders, medics, EMTs, runners who crossed the finish line and kept on running straight to give blood, and the countless civilians who did whatever they could to save lives. They were the true heroes. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this senseless tragedy.”
It’s safe to say even with the jersey off, Andruzzi embodies a Patriot more than ever.
