Brady chips in at annual Best Buddies football game

Patriots quarterback and fan favorite Tom Brady recently did his part to give back to the community. Brady played host for the Tom Brady Football Challenge, a football game that kicked off this weekend’s 14th annual Best Buddies Challenge, but this year, the proceeds raised by the event will go to the OneFund.

Although it wasn’t a full regulation NFL game, it was nice to see Brady go head-to-head during a friendly flag football match for two incredible causes.

Brady is not shy about his love for the fans or his ability to lend a helping hand, for him it’s one of the best things about being  a pro athlete in Boston.

“It’s really the highlight of my offseason,” Brady said in a WEEI interview about the event.

The game on Friday night was a truly emotional event. In addition to having four people affected by the marathon bombings playing in the game, 15 individuals who were unable to complete the marathon this year due to the bombings ran a ceremonial lap around Harvard Stadium at halftime. Brady and Best Buddies participants greeted the runners with medals at the finish line.

The Best Buddies event will continue on as a series of challenges take place over the weekend, all culminating in an ocean-side lobster clambake hosted by Brady on Saturday night. For more information, check out Team Tom Brady’s page here.
