Pats Tuning Out Distractions Related to Hernandez
New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez is caught in the middle of a very delicate police investigation. Authorities have searched his home and surrounding areas in connection with the murder of a man who was dating Hernandez’s girlfriend’s sister.
This story is the only NFL related story in the doldrums of the offseason but fellow Patriots are not letting it affect them. Defensive captain Jerod Mayo was interviewed this past weekend at the 7News & Boston Medical Center Health and Fitness Expo, which took place at the Hynes Convention Center. The topic of Hernandez’s investigation was brought up and Mayo said he and other teammates don’t let it bother them.
“We always talk about ignoring the noise, and we’re doing the same now,” Mayo said. “Whether it’s good or bad, we always talk about ignoring the noise.”
This is very typical of the Patriots who, throughout the Kraft-Belichick era, have been very guarded and reserved when it comes to their players and the media attention they receive. Mayo brushed off any further questions in typical Patriots fashion.
“I’m going to leave that one alone until everything’s done or whatever,” he said.
The situation with Hernandez is still very much up in the air. Reportedly police are preparing a warrant to arrest him on charges of obstruction but his attorney says those claims are false. However this situation turns out, the reaction will be from talking heads on ESPN and not from the Patriots players themselves.
