Dice-K California bound?
Daisuke Matsuzaka wants to pitch in San Diego, according to Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune via a NESN report.
Matsuzaka, former Red Sox pitcher, is now a free agent, and the Padres seem like the No. 1 destination. He said he likes the city of San Diego and the Padres’ park, Petco Field, specifically.
While he might like San Diego for the beautiful weather, Petco Park also happens to be one of the most pitcher-friendly fields in major league baseball. Matsuzaka has experience pitching there in the 2008 World Baseball Classic.
And the stats back up Matsuzaka’s opinion, according to ESPN’s MLB park factors, Petco Park was the fifth most pitcher-friendly in baseball in 2012, and the third most pitcher-friendly in 2011.
The pitcher returned from Tommy John surgery last season, but faced a bit of trouble going for a 1-7 record with an 8.28 ERA and 1.708 WHIP in 11 starts.
