Bruins roundup: The good times keep coming for the Bruins

The Boston Bruins had a good week, playing two games and winning both of them.

On Saturday, the Bruins squared off versus the Toronto Maple Leafs for the first time this season, and they set the tone in a 1-0 win.

Chris Bourque (son of NHL legend Ray Bourque) scored the lone goal in the game in the first period, but both teams’ offenses went silent from then on. Goalie Tuukka Rask preserved the shutout, saving all 21 shots by the Leafs.

Bourque said he was euphoric after the game when recounting his game winning goal.

“I kind of blacked out I was so excited,” Bourque said. “I don’t think I’ve scored an NHL goal in four years.”

The Bruins earned a much needed rest after the game, as Brad Marchand  was banged up after he took a beating from defenseman Mike Komisarek then tripped over Leafs goalie James Reimer. Daniel Paille and Shawn Thornton are both still recovering from injuries received in last Thursday’s game. Paille was grazed with a stick to the visor and is not expected to be out long, however Thornton suffered a concussion in a brawl on the ice and is expected to be out for a week.

The Bruins capped off their week with a 3-1 win over one of their biggest rivals, the Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens were 6-2-0 going into the game and 5-1-0 at home, but they were no match for the Bruins. Boston earned its seventh win of the season to cement its status as the top team in the Northeast Division.

The Canadiens held a 1-0 lead after two periods, but Tyler Seguin and David Krejci both scored goals in the third period. Tuukka Rask helped the Bruins hold on to the win with 20 saves out of 21 chances.

Seguin said he was relieved to score (his only non-shoot-out goal of the season before Wednesday night had been an empty-net goal) Wednesday night.

“I was feeling snake-bitten, but I’m glad one went in and we pulled this one out,” Seguin said. “I feel I’ve been playing decently. I had a couple of goals called back. Things weren’t going in. But we got it going in the third.”

The Bruins will face the Tampa Bay Lightning this Saturday and will need to be at their best yet again. The Lightning are off to a hot start at 6-3-0 on the season.
