Five things we love about Tom Brady: birthday edition

Published On August 3, 2012 | By Arielle Aronson

Today, August 3, marks beloved Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s 35th birthday. We already know about the magic he works on the field. On his birthday, we could list all the records and Super Bowl rings he has in his name, but we figured it would be more fun to list the five things we love – in no particular order — about Brady the person as well.

Hair: It is one of the greatest fascinations in the New England area. What is Tom Brady doing with his hair now? Is he rocking the ponytail again? How about the slicked back movie star look? The quarterback, despite wearing a helmet for his professional career, never disappoints the New England ladies. We love Brady’s hair, and when we don’t, we blame it on Gisele. But seriously, how many guys can pull off as many different hairstyles as Tom has over the last decade?

Underdog: Tom Brady was never supposed to be one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. By now almost everyone knows his story. Brady was a throwaway pick in the 2000 NFL draft. He found his way onto the Patriots roster when Bill Belichick decided to keep four quarterbacks on the roster instead of the typical three. Brady worked his butt off, and when Drew Bledsoe went down with broken ribs in the second game of the 2001 season, Belichick decided to give Brady some game action. Brady has been the starting quarterback ever since. Now, he’s married to a supermodel and is one of the most famous men in the world, but we in New England will never forget where he came from. We were there for his humble beginnings, and now we’re here for the rewards of his hard work.

Daddy Brady: Is there anything in sports that makes your heart melt more than watching Brady with his two boys? Brady’s oldest son, John (also known as Jack), was born amidst a bit of a scandal, as Brady had broken up with John’s mother, Bridget Moynahan three months before she announced she was pregnant. The idea that a Catholic Brady was very publicly having a child out of wedlock was also a bit of a shocker. Still, Brady put any hard feelings aside and became a doting dad to little John and then son Benjamin (with wife Gisele). Based on some recent pictures of Gisele, it looks like Brady will be a father three times over pretty soon.

Acting skills: In the off season, Brady has had some time to debut some of his other talents. Among those are his acting skills. He appeared in the movie Stuck On You, made a cameo in Entourage, hosted Saturday Night Live and starred as a cartoon version of himself on Family Guy and The Simpsons. One of his most recent performances came in a hilarious Funny or Die video making fun of his lack of a Boston accent. The best part of Brady’s acting career? We get to see a lighter side of our favorite quarterback during the long NFL off season.
