Harper to get free burritos for 2013

Bryce Harper made headlines when his attempts to gain weight in the offseason became known to the media, well he won’t have any trouble with that now that Chipotle Mexican Grill has offered him free burritos for the year.

Life is pretty good for Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper. At the age of 20 he is already a fixture in their lineup and will have a place in DC for many years to come. As if things could not possibly get better for the young slugger, Chipotle Mexican Grill offered him a “sustainably grown burrito card” which gives Harper free burritos for the year. Now what 20-year old wouldn’t want that?

There has been some controversy though; Harper tweeted that he is getting free burritos for life, but it quickly came out that Chipotle only meant for the deal to last a year. Since few of these things are ever set in stone, the confusion is understandable.

Apparently Harper is not the only celebrity to enjoy the privilege of free burritos, causing many to speculate who else may be in this exclusive club, and how one could go about getting into it. Josh Hamilton and Justin Verlander are cool, did they make it in? The club is a bit secretive though so we may never know.

While the reasoning behind the stunt is unknown, many assume it is Chipotle’s part in finding celebrity status to boost their sales, which are already pretty good. With free burritos for the year Harper shouldn’t have any problem gaining weight to prep for the long season, the trouble may be keeping it off. They say there is no free lunch, but I’d say this comes as close as it gets.
