Kansas City Chiefs making moves
Following an eventful week of moves among NFL teams that fell short of the postseason, the Kansas City Chiefs have parted ways with their general manager and hired a new head coach.
The team has fired general manager Scott Pioli after four less than stellar seasons. With a 23-41 record in those past four seasons, their best moment came in 2010 when they won the AFC West, but were knocked out of the playoffs in a 30-7 blowout against the Ravens.
His downfall was most likely the trade with the Patriots for Matt Cassel, who never found success in Kansas City. Brady Quinn took his starting position this season, but it only got worse.
With Pioli on his way out, ESPN is reporting that Andy Reid is on his way in as the Chiefs’ new head coach. It looked like the former Eagles’ coach would have his choice of positions, but Reid chose to meet with the Chiefs first.
Reid was the biggest name among the available coaches, and the hire certainly sends the message that the Chiefs organization is ready for a complete revival. And after the year both the Chiefs and Reid have had, a fresh start could be just what both parties need.
