Tom Brady locks in new deal
Tom Brady has signed a new 3-year-contract keeping him with the Patriots until he is 40.
Brady’s base salary will be $7 million, $8 million, and $9 million, respectively for 2015-2017. In addition, Brady will receive a signing bonus of $3 million.
Brady has signed this deal, allowing money to be allocated to other members of the team as well. Brady is a cheap quarterback, especially when you compare it to the $20 million a season that Drew Brees makes and Joe Flacco wants.
His last contract was a four-year extension in 2010 worth $72 million. That pact, which contained $48.5 million in guarantees, took effect at the start of the 2011 season.
Brees signed a five-year, $100 million deal in 2012 while Peyton Manning received a five-year, $96 million package from the Denver Broncos.
Now that the Patriots have some extra money, it will help them secure certain free agents that they want to keep. Wide receiver Wes Welker, tackle Sebastian Vollmer, and cornerback Aquib Talib are a few names on that list. Brady’s new deal makes it easier for the team to secure the players that they need in order to build a stronger team.
Brady holds the NFL record for touchdown passes in a season with 50 in 2007, when the Patriots went 18-0 before losing the Super Bowl to the Giants.
Last season, Brady had 34 touchdown passes and eight interceptions as the Patriots went 12-4, leading the league with 557 points, 76 more than runner-up Denver.
